Dingdok does not invent quality options. It lists exactly what the source page exposes at the moment it is parsed, so the same link can offer different formats on different days. This guide explains how to pick a sensible default and override it per download.
How quality is detected
- Dingdok fetches the page metadata.
- It reads the available streams and containers.
- It maps them to labels such as 360p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, and 2160p.
If a site serves a maximum of 720p, no 1080p entry will ever appear — there is nothing to upscale.
Setting a preferred quality
Open Settings → Quality and choose a preference:
- Best available — always take the highest resolution the source offers.
- Cap at 1080p — good default for most libraries; keeps files reasonable.
- Cap at 720p — fastest downloads and smallest files.
- Ask every time — show the format list before each download.
The cap is a ceiling, not a target. A 720p-only source still downloads at 720p even if you cap at 1080p.
Overriding for a single download
- Paste a link and let Dingdok parse it.
- Click the quality chip on the queue row.
- Pick a specific resolution, container (MP4 or MKV), and audio track.
- Confirm; the choice applies to that item only.
Container and codec notes
- MP4 is the most compatible choice for phones, TVs, and editors.
- MKV keeps multiple audio tracks and subtitle streams in one file.
- Audio only extracts the soundtrack to M4A or MP3 when available.
Practical tips
- Prefer 1080p for archive copies; 4K roughly triples file size for a small visual gain on most screens.
- Subtitles are downloaded as separate sidecar files when the source provides them.
- If a chosen format later disappears, Dingdok re-parses and falls back to the next best available, and tells you it did.
